The Museum is located on the top of the hill in the Old Medina of Saida, South Lebanon, near the archeological site of Saint Louis castle.
The Solh family residence a two stories house built in the late 19th century, belonging to the GDA; it is considered as a monument and therefore should be preserved.
The new museum shall be hosted in the family house after a wide restoration, and rehabilitation of the existing structure.
The museum is dedicated to Riad El Solh, his important role in the independence of Lebanon, and all the historical era spreading from the end of the Ottoman Empire to the year 1955 Aprox.
While preserving the existing structure of the original house and all its traditional architecture and elevation, a new structure shall be added inside the main volume, this added structure shall regulate the visitor’s flow and support the collection of the museum mainly composed of images and documents.
All the additions are of a contemporary language, contrasting with the traditional preserved items of the original architecture.
Beyond the use of the building as a museum, the layout of the museum is organized in order to host different activities related to the basic use, temporary exhibition historical research center, seminars and conferences.
